1 in 4 Homeowners Combine Kitchen Countertop Materials

According to Houzz, 1 in 4 homeowners combine two or more kitchen countertop materials when renovating their kitchens. Custom wood countertops are often paired with marble, engineered quartz, quartzite, granite and metal countertops. A popular design choice is to include a wood countertop in a food preparation area while using a metal or stone countertop for perimeter countertops. Another design used often is to select a stone, like marble or quartz, for the kitchen island countertop and select a wood countertop for the seating area.

Custom Wood Countertops designed for Laundry Rooms

Custom wood countertops are designed for use in many rooms throughout the home, including laundry rooms. They can be designed for the wash station area or for extra counter space. Wood countertops provide a naturally warm surface for folding and switching the wash. Some designers choose to combine an integrated mudroom and laundry room. For integrated spaces like that, a wood bench seat is often crafted for a warm place to sit.

About the Designer: Phoebe really enjoys working with clients to bring their ideas to life. The kitchen is the heart of the home, and her goal is always to create a space that the homeowner is excited about, so they are happy to share it with family and friends. Aesthetics are very important, but a kitchen design is only successful when it is functional. As a designer my goal is always to create a beautiful space that feels effortless.

A Tip from Phoebe: Play with symmetry. A symmetrical layout is the foundation of any good design, but try making a statement with a glass cabinet that is a different size than all the rest, use asymmetry to create focal points.

Powder Room Vanity Countertops

During the 18th Century, a powder room referred to a tiny room where people went to have their wigs re-powdered. Powder rooms were still used through the Victorian period as well, but the definition of powder room changed to mean a general bathroom. Women would discretely excuse themselves from company by going to “powder their noses” in the powder room. Though the uses for a powder room have changed over time, the exclusive privacy they provide has remained the same.

Powder rooms in today’s homes offer a myriad of design possibilities. Unlike historical powder rooms, they can include design elements of furniture such as decorative vanities. Vanities offer storage space for towels and other toiletries. However, they can also serve as a design statement.
