About the Designers: A collaborative effort was used to create this striking custom 1 3/4″ Peruvian Walnut edge grain countertop. It was designed by Kristin Kleban, Senior Designer, and Bruce Roth, Owner of Sycamore Kitchens & More. The client wanted the softness and wow factor of wood in her beautiful new kitchen crafted by Sycamore Kitchens & More. Kristin has been designing beautiful kitchens for over 20 years and Bruce was instrumental in actually coordinating the look and managing the fabrication.

A Tip from Bruce & Kristin: If abutting another material such as granite, make the wood top 1/4″ thicker so you can overlap the edge of the granite so no crumbs fall into a “seam” between the two materials!

Anvil Metal Countertops | Details

When applied to real wood surfaces, Anvil metal finishes allow the natural grain and imperfections of the wood to show through. This creates a rich design aesthetic that combines the natural look of wood with the modern look of metal finishes.

Unlike traditional metal countertops, Anvil countertops can be used in curved profile applications and complex shapes not previously possible in sheet metal products.

Select a composite substrate to replicate the look of a real metal surface. Anvil countertops, just like real metal, develop a rich aged patina over time. Slight imperfections and variations in color are inherent in the finish process.

When combined with our exterior substrates, they can be used in outdoor spaces. Anvil Metal countertops can feature any Grothouse edge profile. They can be left unfinished or sealed with our Durata® Waterproof Permanent Finish. Anvil Metal countertops have a lead time of 6-8 weeks and are covered under a 1 year warranty.

Anvil Metal Countertops | Coatings

The Anvil Line features 8 metal coatings for countertops. Each coating takes on completely different characteristics depending upon the wood or substrate they cover, making it an incredibly versatile surfacing option. Below are the metal coatings available for countertops: Axel, Medallion, Ferrum, Kratos, Argentum, Exodus, Palladium and Magnum.

Wood Countertops with Blue Cabinetry

A popular design trend we have seen over time is wood countertops with blue cabinetry. The warm tones in wood countertops compliment the cooler tones in shades of blue.

Wood Cutting Board Counter Top

The most common use for a wood surface is a wood cutting board counter top. This is because wood surfaces can be easily sanded and renewed of knife marks caused from food preparation.

Wood tops can be crafted in flat, edge, or end grain construction style. End grain construction style is considered to be the best surface for cutting, chopping, and direct food preparation. Knives stay sharper longer on these surfaces because the edge slips between the fibers rather than slicing across them.

However, the most important requirement in order to be used as a cutting board is that the wood counter top must be finished with Grothouse Original Oil™. When the knife marks are made in the wood top, the surface can be sanded and refinished with the oil to look like new.
